Chris Lewis- Bill C-241 update

“After a great weekend with Pierre Poilievre touring Essex and Windsor, I had the honour of speaking at Third Reading to my PMB, Bill C-241, a tax deduction for travel for tradespersons. This is moving ahead as planned and will now pass through the Senate over the coming months. It is great to see the Bloc and NDP back this bill, but the Liberals still resist what I think is a no brain solution to mobility challenges for workers. Thank you to all who have given their support to Bill C-241. See my speech below.”

Holiday message from our International Vice President

Season’s Greetings:

On behalf of the First District Office and our entire staff across the country, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

Please let us take this opportunity to thank our IBEW members, from our local union leadership to each and every IBEW member of our Local Unions across our great country for their dedication to the IBEW. Our members are called upon throughout the year, including the holidays, to keep the lights on, to restore power to after storms and climate events, and powering our communities from coast to coast to coast. We truly keep our country connected.

We should all be thankful for the opportunities and advantages that the IBEW presents to us and our families every day of the year, especially during the holiday season. I want to thank you for your loyalty and dedication to the IBEW during the past year and I look forward to working with you in 2023.

I hope that you can spend some quality time with your family and friends this holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

In solidarity,

Russ Shewchuk

A message from IBEW CCO

IBEW CCO opposes Province’s Bill 28

Nov. 4, 2022 (Toronto) – The IBEW Construction Council of Ontario (IBEW CCO) is calling on the Ontario government to return to the bargaining table and says Bill 28 is an indefensible  attack on the right of all workers and unions to bargain.

“It is important to let  the Ontario Government know when we believe it is out of line. Using the “Notwithstanding Clause” to strip our province’s education workers of their Charter right to freely bargain a collective agreement and to, instead,  impose a contract is morally wrong,” said James Barry, Executive Secretary Treasurer of IBEW CCO.

“We all want our children to stay in school, they have suffered enough over the last few years but we must also consider the education workers in this negotiation who help support our school system and its students on a daily basis. Imposing  this Bill without adequate and meaningful dialogue is not acceptable,” said Barry.

The IBEW CCO urges the Province and CUPE to return to the bargaining table immediately and to resolve their differences through a negotiated agreement that serves the interests of all Ontarians.”

The IBEW CCO represents more than 17000 women and men working in the electrical industry .

Attention

Please note: Due to Covid-19

There are some members who were off work but did not sign the list. It was understood these members were to return to their jobs when possible.

If the member does not return, because the job is cancelled or they are officially laid off, we are placing them on the Out of Work List based on number of days worked and their last day worked.

This is being done in fairness to the members and with understanding to the unique times we are in.
